Meet Mayra

Mayra pouring WineMayra Fana was born in a small village in the Dominican Republic. Wine came to her life at a very early age, eventually became her passion, and it has never left her. She came to New York as a young woman when father had to leave the Dominican Republic for political reasons.

Mayra obtained a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from the City University of New York–CUNY, and worked as an Electrical Engineer for over 30 years. In 2015, she earned a Certification with Distinction as Sommelier from the Sommelier Society of America (SSA). Mayra joined us at Millbrook Winery during the spring of 2016. In 2017 she published a book about wine in Spanish titled “El Vino, la bebida intellectual” (Wine, The Intellectual Drink). When not working at the winery, Mayra also hosts private wine classes and wine events.
